art work pastel painting

This was a second attempt at pastel painting with this image. This was demonstrated in a class recently. Inspired by artist Steve Hall  who I really like. I used cheap soft pastels for the sky on pastelmat paper, bigger than an A4 size. I blended in the blues and added the cloud colours over the paper. I used carbothello pastel pencils for most of the mountains and midground areas. I then added some strokes of unison soft pastels for grass and tree sections. I loved this task. Will definitely push myself into pastel work in the future.

This was a result of using pastel pencil on pastelmat paper, this was a demonstration done in an art class last month.  Having spent a term in this class working in pencil and watercolour on pastel mat, and being inspiried by Jason Morgan a Welsh pastel and oil painting artist.  I was suprised how great the paper takes layers of pastel.  This was very engaging to do with the use of watercolour washes as the first layer and then added pastel pencil strokes to build up the tones and the final stages of the white wiskers were added at the end, I particulary like the eyes. I hope to attempt this method on my Spaniel again.

This was my class demo last week. Based on a practice attempt I did before. This is taken from artist Joseph Alleman. I really love this image, the colour, the subject matter. It is now on my wall framed in the house. I intend to try more in this style and colour range. Love it.

Old farm building Nr Merthyr Tydfil

This pastel painting on pastelmat paper was one of the tasks I used for my classes.  I really enjoyed this one as the photo is one of my own and the way the pastel pencil was able to be layered on this paper so well.  A real find in terms of paper and method. I used watercolour for the sky only and used pastel for the mountains and the building the two mixed really well. I did this scene a few times now and each time I did get lost in the moment and found it so relaxing and made me relax.  Using these materials does give way to calmness and enjoyment.

After Rob Adams - Village scene

This was my second attempt at this scene for one of my classes. I like Rob Adams work. This took 3 hours in the classroom and I just like the style of the markmaking.  I get such enjoyment in doing this kind of image.  It is so easy to adapt the method and here I applied ore colour to the image.
