View from Brecon Beacons

Image
This was a sketch I did in my journal from a vist to the Brecon Beacons this year.  This is a watercolour study with fineliner pen added.  There is so much beauty in our country and brecon is one of the best in Wales.  It is always good to look back at photos of places we visit, but sketching them adds another dimension to the memory.  Art helps me to remember things at a different level. Let me encourge you to do the same. Take some of your photos and re-create the memory in art.

Taj Mahal after Jeremy Ford

This is another attempt  of this watercolour scene. I did this on A3 watercolour. I like this attempt as I took more time when demonstrating in class.  It looks simple but was not. As I took the masking tape away it began to lift the paper, need to get better tape. I decided to disguise this by painting a frame or mount effect. Took 3 hours in the session. I need to practice my washes and experiment more.

Gouache landscape after Jeremy Ford

This was a second attempt demonstration in one of my classes. I decided to try this style as illustrated by artist Jeremy Ford. I used watercolour paper and began to sketch out in pencil first. I them laid areas of colour and some required more than one coat of paint. This is in a style of illustrations and I really enjoyed this one. I think the students in the class had mixed feelings over the task! But judging from their work there is room to do more in this style, many loved the challenge.
