Welsh Mountian dwelling - watercolour pencil and wash

Image
A small experiment with watercolour pencil and watercolour washes. This was inspired by David Bellamy in one of his watercolour books. I used a watercolour pencil to sketch this out, the I decided to mix some indigo into a spray bottle and just wet the paper.  Not sure that this worked.

Sunrise on a quiet village - ink and watercolour

Image
This image was inspired by an art work by Rob Adams . I love his work and the style of pen and ink is great, very loose and free. This is my attempt of creating a task for my classes. I used an A3 sheet of mixed media paper and sketched out in pencil its outline and enough information before I progressed to watercolour. I used cerulean blue and a warm yellow for the sky area. I added some darker tones over the existing layers. This was left to dry. Then I added the ink work.  With dipping pen and bottled ink.  I loved the whole process and it was great to add my own creativity to this image.  I find pen and ink great to use as you can stop for breaks and feel no.pressure, very relaxing. This took about 2 to 3 hours to complete.  Here is the process of adding the ink work.

Dutch Landscape after Rembrandt - Ink and wash

Image
When I worked on my Masters in uni, I looked a lot at Rembrandt, so this task is a small reminder of this great artist. I used mixed media paper and sketched out the simple scene, then I applied some brown washes, burnt umber.  I then when the paper was dry added some mark making with dipping ink to build up the scene.

This was my second painting in the same session last Wednesday.  This was inspired by other artists.  I used Gouache paint,  not totally finished but really enjoyed creating the image.

This was a lovely exercise for my students, this was taken as inspirtion from an expressive artist. I loved this exercise and it was very relaxing and enjoyable.  Stage one was all the watercolour work with texture effects. I would love to use my own source images and just create new artworks.
