This was a live demo in another class, this time painted on canvas pad in acrylic.  I prefer this attempt to the most recent one.  I really enjoy using monochrome images.  Using just balck and white paint helps to understand the whole process of tonal values.

This was my second attempt at this scene for one of my classes. I like Rob Adams work. This took 3 hours in the classroom and I just like the style of the markmaking.  I get such enjoyment in doing this kind of image.  It is so easy to adapt the method and here I applied ore colour to the image.

Portrait of Pepper

This is an old drawing I was asked to draw for a student's daughter as a birthday gift.  I think I did this in 2017.  I wanted to add to this blog to show how involved something like this is. This was in fact my second attempt as the first one was done by scribing the paper and added graphite to make the hair more realistic, but after spending a week on it still was not right, so this then became a pure graphite attempt, and I was very plased with the likness. I used various pencil grades and I also used an fine pen eraser to create the effect of the lighter fur.  I realy focused on the eys as this is where the likeness really mattered.

Winter scene in Gouache

Capture winter in Gouache! I found an artwork online that I wanted to re-interpret in Gouache paint, I did not use pencil to do a simple sketch but painted straight onto watercolour paper.  I am getting more used to using this medium. I decided to flip the original image and just create my own version.  Starting with the sky and then working down to the horizon, changing the blues all the time. This could be any scene from Wales or England, but it would be evn better to paint such a scene from life, perhaps when I get more time to do so! This may well become a task for my students in the new term in Jan 2023.

Barafundle Bay

This is an acrylic painting of the memory of a recent visit to Barafundle Bay.  My wife and I had never been there before so this time we went to West Wales we sought to visit this famed beach.  Our dog loved it as did we. I really enjoyed creting this A3 sized painting.  It took a few hours and adding layer at a time enabled me to build up the detail and contrast of colour and tone.  I tried to make it a little impressionistic rather than give too much detail to stone walss or trees in the distance. I hope to draw and paint scenes like this more and more.
