This Blog is basically a journal of artwork I have created or have demonstrated for my classes. The whole point of art is to engage with the imagination and see things in a different way. Creation has such wonders to admire!
This is a first go at this image by Rob Adams. Done in readiness for September 2024 term. I took my time and enjoyed the process. I love looking at Rob Adams work. His blog is quite academic too.
I love this image as it shows an interesting subject matter and the style is in black and sepia in a loose approach. This was done in my journal book as a pre sketch in readiness for the classes to have a go. I may take more time in class to get the proportions correct and the subtle tonal chages. I used sepia and black watercolour, but could try this in all ink in the future.
This was a second attempt at pastel painting with this image. This was demonstrated in a class recently. Inspired by artist Steve Hall who I really like. I used cheap soft pastels for the sky on pastelmat paper, bigger than an A4 size. I blended in the blues and added the cloud colours over the paper. I used carbothello pastel pencils for most of the mountains and midground areas. I then added some strokes of unison soft pastels for grass and tree sections. I loved this task. Will definitely push myself into pastel work in the future.
This was a sketch I did in my journal from a vist to the Brecon Beacons this year. This is a watercolour study with fineliner pen added. There is so much beauty in our country and brecon is one of the best in Wales. It is always good to look back at photos of places we visit, but sketching them adds another dimension to the memory. Art helps me to remember things at a different level. Let me encourge you to do the same. Take some of your photos and re-create the memory in art.
A sketch of a bridge in Aberystwyth, "Bridge Street" . I sketched this on Seawhite A4 journal paper Watercolour, in graphite. Will use this as a base for other artworks in ink or watercolour.
