This Blog is basically a journal of artwork I have created or have demonstrated for my classes. The whole point of art is to engage with the imagination and see things in a different way. Creation has such wonders to admire!
This was a demo I created in a class in Merthyr. The group seemed to like this style and method. It could be applied to many subjects. I loved doing this.
This is an acrylic painting of the memory of a recent visit to Barafundle Bay. My wife and I had never been there before so this time we went to West Wales we sought to visit this famed beach. Our dog loved it as did we. I really enjoyed creting this A3 sized painting. It took a few hours and adding layer at a time enabled me to build up the detail and contrast of colour and tone. I tried to make it a little impressionistic rather than give too much detail to stone walss or trees in the distance. I hope to draw and paint scenes like this more and more.
This is an old drawing I was asked to draw for a student's daughter as a birthday gift. I think I did this in 2017. I wanted to add to this blog to show how involved something like this is. This was in fact my second attempt as the first one was done by scribing the paper and added graphite to make the hair more realistic, but after spending a week on it still was not right, so this then became a pure graphite attempt, and I was very plased with the likness. I used various pencil grades and I also used an fine pen eraser to create the effect of the lighter fur. I realy focused on the eys as this is where the likeness really mattered.
This watercolour was inspired from another artist, David Howell. I did this one as a task for some of my classes. The Ariel perspective with layers of colour was a joy to create. I love the colours also. Took about 3.5 hours to complete.
This was a new demonstration in a new art class yesterday (13/3/23). I gave the students more freedom with this image. It is truly amazing how different each persons rendition looks like. I decided to make it more of summer colours with blue sky and green and brown mountains and trees etc. I sketched this out firstly in graphite a very basic sketch. Then I painted in the sky with wet into wet and added blue, yellow and red to mix those colours and just let the paint do its thing. next I kept adding more washses and then as the paper was drying added more colour and foliage. All the while I was adding pen and ink to the scene, this took two hours so I felt it was a session well spent in creativity and relaxation.
