another demo pen and wash old cottage

This is a simplistic sketch in ink and blue (Indigo) watercolour wash. This was inspired by an online artist. This is one I intend to show as a digital image later. I love these kinds of images.
The method was done  free hand and with a fineliner pen.  The quickness was something I want learners to grasp and try not to get too engrossed in detail but make a sketch rather than a drawing of the image.

This is an acrylic painting of the memory of a recent visit to Barafundle Bay.  My wife and I had never been there before so this time we went to West Wales we sought to visit this famed beach.  Our dog loved it as did we. I really enjoyed creting this A3 sized painting.  It took a few hours and adding layer at a time enabled me to build up the detail and contrast of colour and tone.  I tried to make it a little impressionistic rather than give too much detail to stone walss or trees in the distance. I hope to draw and paint scenes like this more and more.

Portrait of Pepper

This is an old drawing I was asked to draw for a student's daughter as a birthday gift.  I think I did this in 2017.  I wanted to add to this blog to show how involved something like this is. This was in fact my second attempt as the first one was done by scribing the paper and added graphite to make the hair more realistic, but after spending a week on it still was not right, so this then became a pure graphite attempt, and I was very plased with the likness. I used various pencil grades and I also used an fine pen eraser to create the effect of the lighter fur.  I realy focused on the eys as this is where the likeness really mattered.

Pen and Ink - The perfect media for expressive scenes

Tenby in pen and Ink I wanted to begin another blog with this platform to use and express my love for doing art. This artistic blog is not just confined to my personal art journey but my teaching practice with community learners in the South Wales area in the UK. As a start this image shows how I love to draw in pen and ink.  This image is one of a few I have done of Tenby, a couple of years ago now.  It took many hours but it was so relaxing and the use of bottle ink (for washes of ink) and technical pen was my prefered method to represent this scene.  I love the way the contrast helped to express this scene with a real feeling of atmosphere.  I love the way it takes a long time to build up an image like this.  It enables me to focus and express my flow of creativity at a pace that I can control. Another pen and ink study is also of Cardiff castle and the main street viewing it.  I used the same method and apporach for this scene as I did for tenby above....

Taj Mahal after Jeremy Ford

This is another attempt  of this watercolour scene. I did this on A3 watercolour. I like this attempt as I took more time when demonstrating in class.  It looks simple but was not. As I took the masking tape away it began to lift the paper, need to get better tape. I decided to disguise this by painting a frame or mount effect. Took 3 hours in the session. I need to practice my washes and experiment more.
