winter scene 3 Gouache

This was my second painting in the same session last Wednesday.  This was inspired by other artists.  I used Gouache paint,  not totally finished but really enjoyed creating the image.

This is one acrylic task I have created for a class this week. It is after the famous painting by Monet. This was great to work on not too difficult. I have created a copy of this in the past in pastel, but I would love to try it in oil, it is just have the time to spare and the method of using oip is more intense and those many layers! This is one I did in 2017 in pastel the other one was the same time but acrylic.

Degas "woman combing her hair"

This drawing was done on pastelmat paper A4 size andI tried to render it in the same way as Degas.  I don't do many life studies as I find them very difficult to do, but as a challenge this was great, to make me use a media that is not easy and to use observational skills to seek to render a good likeness to his work.

Pastel painting after Edward Seago

I just wanted to use pastel yesterday and I foun d inspiration form a book on oil painting by Edward Seago.  I love his work and both his method and style are quite fluid and relaxing to look at.  There was recently an article in the Artist magazine about his work, very accomplished artist. I used Touch pastel paper by  CANSON : MI-TEINTES TOUCH : PASTEL PAPER PAD  size A3.  I used both pan pastel for some background colours, then I built up more layers with my Unison pastel sticks,  very creamy to use, I sketched out the scene in pastel pencil first (brown) I tried to limit the amount of dust and frequently scrapped the surface with a plasitc card to be able to keep adding more colour and pigment.  My attempt is very impressionistic and need to take a look at adding more detail in time, but for 3 hours I loved the mind engagement this exercise gave me.  I may attempt more images like this not just in pastel but be brave and do more oil painting! ...
